The Kings Cross area has a fascinating history. During the 4th century Romano-British inhabitants established premises that endure today as St.Pancras old church (right). The church boasts an original altarstone. |

The nearby
slum of St. Giles was the setting for Charles
Dickens novel Oliver Twist. During the nineteenth century, this area was one of Londons poorest districts. |

18th and 19th centuries saw the arrival of first canals and then railways.
These transformed an, until then, semi-rural Kings Cross into an urban area

Today, Kings Cross most famous export is childrens favourite Harry Potter. Harrys train to Hogwarts left from platform nine and three quarters. |
